When market volatility rises, our clients count on ׶Ƶ to help navigate through the uncertainty. Time and time again, our teams have done the hard work to provide our clients with our analysis when there is a lack of information in the market, relying on our experience in and knowledge of credit markets.

During March 2023, we all witnessed how a potentially isolated regional bank crisis caused ripples around the world and raised broader concerns about the global banking sector. This fear then spilled into credit and equity markets, impacting most sectors. Starting with an analysis of SVB, then regional and money center banks, our team looked for the next stresses across sectors and published to our audience with the latest facts, breaking news, and research. Our clients have direct access to our team, allowing in-depth conversations that surface additional insights.

Every year our team of analysts publishes a series of Outlooks that cover near-term and long-term forecasts for 2023 for the global markets, sectors, and issuers. We dive into the themes that are most relevant for fixed income investors in the year ahead.

In these Outlooks, analysts refresh their recommendations for more than 40 sectors, provide picks and pans for IG and HY investors, examine operating trends and expectations as well as capital allocation, and deliver charts and tables to help you make informed investment decisions. Our team highlights which credits we think are most likely to outperform during the year, while providing caution on names to avoid.

Top Read Outlooks in US and Europe

We provide a detailed look at US bank sub debt relative value for 2023, still seeing secondary spreads as too rich but with increasing primary market opportunities as part of a multi-year issuance ‘wave’ to replace Tier 2 amortization. Our 2023 Outlook for US Independent E&Ps focuses on key themes in the sector, including cash flow compression, a continued ramp in shareholder returns and peaking credit metrics. These are ten themes to watch in the US media sector in 2023, including downside risk to the advertising outlook, hefty EBITDA declines at linear TV networks, the need for DTC to show a path to profitability and a quieter year for M&A.

Economic weakness in 2023 will put pressure on European banks’ earnings and asset quality, but their balance sheets are stronger than in the past, and we expect them to be resilient. In our 2023 Outlook piece, we highlight key themes and trends to watch out for in the IG European consumer space and outline our key picks and pans in the sector. We highlight credits with strong fundamental stories and/or compelling relative value, along with credits we believe will be fundamentally challenged or offer poor relative value.

׶Ƶ, Covenant Review, and LevFin Insights are becoming one, bringing together best in class research, covenant analysis, and news.

Join us at our in-person Outlook Conferences in New York and London to see our new united platform. ׶Ƶ.com has been redesigned to fit your workflow and provide all the insights you need during the full life cycle of credit investments.

Fully Integrated Analysis & Expertise

We’ve built a platform that clients want; we have listened to our customers and used their input to develop the site, and to build our product roadmap for 2023. Our product and development teams have been hard at work this year to build a new and better experience for our users, with the goal of incorporating the content from ׶Ƶ, Covenant Review, and LevFin Insights, plus built a number of new features to become an easy-to-use resource for credit market participants. Well received features include:

  • Easy to understand design and navigation
  • Content in a single place with clear distinctions
  • The teaser content preview
  • New 3 column Company page layout offering greater insights
  • Consistency across Covenant Review Data Tools

While our first phase is to launch this new platform in January, we have more to build in 2023, including an expanded Special Situations offering, broader coverage, and a new and improved Risk ׶Ƶ model and interface.

Set Your Preferences, See What Matters to You (and Your Portfolio)

We’ve brought together three distinct content sets in one easy to view page. Once you decide what markets, sectors, and companies to follow, the “My Feed” page will surface the content you want to see, separated into three distinct Research, Covenants, and News sections. Want to see everything that is published? Global Feed has it all, with filters to help navigate. For existing ׶Ƶ subscribers, your preferences will carry over to the new site, but we suggest a quick review to ensure you are not missing relevant content.

A new feature of the site is the preview pane on the right-hand side, allowing for a quick read from the feeds page. It is easy to jump to the full article view, where the Ask an Analyst, and ׶Ƶ View features are displayed.

׶Ƶ Global Feed Screen

Enhanced Company Pages

We are most excited about our company pages. In a new, three column layout, we show all of our content related to a specific issuer. All published content from our three content teams are shown, as well as the ׶Ƶ View and Recommendation. Find the information you need for a quick view of the credit via our Company Overview, Risk and Catalysts, Operating Condition, and Fundamental Overviews. From Covenant Review we highlight the documents available for the issuer, and we show all the deals a company has undertaken, as well as what may be in market, sourced by our news team at LevFin Insights.

׶Ƶ Company Screen Page View

Are you Ready to Try the New ׶Ƶ?

These are uncertain times for Credit Markets, and you’ll want to power your analysis with the best research, news and analysis available. Sneak peaks of the platform will begin in December, with migration for current users beginning in January 2023. Contact your sales representative to be one of the first with access to the new ׶Ƶ!

A Single Platform for a Holistic View

Special Situation investing is one of the most complex and specialized strategies in credit. Investors need to consider myriad factors including industry and sector dynamics, credit documents, legal proceedings, game theory and breaking news. Today, most of the important developments for the largest workouts and restructurings happen out-of-court and require navigating these complex factors before any bankruptcy filing occurs. Our Special Situations solution brings together the expertise of ׶Ƶ, Covenant Review and LevFin Insights (LFI) to provide news, fundamental, and legal research in one place. In 2023, our new and improved website will combine Covenant Review and LFI into one platform with a single log-on, where you’ll be able to explore more granular critical analysis and data via a Special Situations page, and also to set dedicated email alerts to receive updates.

Experience that you can Count on

׶Ƶ has assembled a seasoned team of Special Situations analysts, reporters and attorneys writing research and news that matters to the market. We regularly reach out to our clients and look for opportunities to meet to discuss what they need to know to manage credit risk. To that end, last week ׶Ƶ, Covenant Review and LFI hosted an in-person panel discussion at Hearst Tower in New York focusing on the current landscape and future trends for Special Situations. Our panel provided thoughts on default rates and outlook. They covered key sectors and names moving in distress or potentially moving that way. Discussed key trends in covenants and the latest state of play on creditor-on-creditor violence.

We invite you to watch the panel replay, click here to access the recording.

Enhancements to Keep up with Special Situation Trends

In 2023 we’ll be making available downloadable models, recovery analysis, and detailed capital structures, along with all archived news and research. We expect to provide expanded coverage of Special Situations across the high yield and distressed markets. Additionally, we’ll be leveraging our sector analysts’ expertise, as we’re still investing in talent and building a team of deep dive experts across our regions.

So, stay tuned for more next year!
